The most Ecuadorians, both drivers and pedestrians, use to have our own rules like drive without safety belt, drive drunken, wait the traffic light exactly on the zebra line, cross the street walking for anyware, stop the bus on anyware, etc. And when a police comes to warn us, we have an interesting rule that is "come to terms with the police". Nice, so if you have learned how to "come to terms with the police" or get friend of a good contact, it doesn't matter that you drive bad or don't respect the transit's laws.
Now there is a new transit's law that has a penalty for each infraction and takes away points from your license according to the gravity of the infraction.
You have 30 points in your license, if you reach to 30 points you definitely won't have license anymore. You can recuperate the half points of your penalty doing social work.
The infractions are categorized in classes according to the gravity, price and points; following some of they:
1.- Mild infractions of first class. Price: $10. Points: 1,5
2.- Mild infractions of second class. Price: $20. Points: 3
- Don't have extinguisher/first-aid kit.
- Stop the traffic for don't have fuel.
- Park wrong.
- Expired license or forget.
Use cellphone while drive
Drive with turn off lights.
Insult someone.
3.- Mild infractions of third class. Price: $30. Points: 4,5
- Drive on wrong direction way
- Don't exact safetybelt to the users.
- Load persons, animals or objects on arms
- Don't use directional lights for turn or park
- Pick up passengers out of the bus stops.
- Don't pick up cyclists with your bikes.
- Motorcycles with excess of persons.
4.- Hard infractions of first class. Price: $60. Points: 6
- Break traffic signals or police
- Pass on dangerous places
- Drive without have license.
- Exceed the number of passengers allowed
- Don't respect to the police
- Organize shop and sell cars in the street.
- Exceed the speed limit
- Bad tires
5.- Hard infractions of second class. Price: $80. Points: 7,5
- Park on dangerous sites
- Caused damages on public way.
6.- Hard infractions of third class. Price: $100. Points: 9
- Accident that caused material damages until 20% of basic wage
7.- Very Hard infractions. Price: $200. Points: 10 "3 days of prison".
- Drive drunk.
Crime: Report of injury/dead
It's hard to get used to do some things to the new transit's law, but the benefits will be for us and for the society.
It definitely will be less accident than now. And we will be more careful and safety, we will use safetybelt always and we might not drive drunk or take and taxi when we will drink.
